I was fortunate enough to be invited to speak at the opeining of The Phantom: Off the Drawing Board exhibition at the Bundaberg Regional Galleries on November 17/18th. Thank you again to Gallery Rebecca McDuff, gallery assistant Jess Newitt, and Frew Publications for the inclusion of my character and comic work for the Kid Phantom interactive exhibit.
A big congratulations to Frew cartoonist, friend and Bundaberg native Shane Foley for a great exhibition of his work, collector Paul Moloney and the other collectors for their amazing Phantom comic art and memorabilia (was amazing to see the linage of Phantom artists represented from Ray Moore, Wilson McCoy, Sy Barry, and others), and all the local artists who contributed to the Phantom response in Gallery 2.
Thank you too to all the Phantom readers, phriends and phans who travelled to support and see the opening and the exhibition. You made our weekend. Amanda and I had a lovely time.
The Kid Phantom interactive exhibit is open until Feb 4 2024 where kids can hang out, draw, read comics, play with Kid Phantom characters, and watch the animated short film made by 2017 Griffith Film School animation students.
"Celebrating the work of Queensland illustrator, Paul Mason, the Kid Phantom exhibition takes over Imaginarts for the summer!
Imaginarts | 18 November 2023 to 4 February 2024Opening event: Friday 17 November, 5.30 pm
Introducing ‘The Ghost Who Walks’ to a whole new generation of readers, the Kid Phantom comic was released by Frew Publications in 2017. It had a fresh new look and told the story of Kit and his lifelong friend, Guran, as they left their Skull Cave home and the jungles of the Deep Woods, to sail to America for Kit’s education. In this interactive exhibition, explore the story behind Kid Phantom and design your own plot twists and storylines to add to the adventure."
